Weekly Update: Feb 25-Mar 1

Hello Parents,

 Wow, what a great field trip on Friday! Today the students worked in their pioneer groups talking about pioneer inventions that made life easier. It was awesome for them to make connections between Fridays experience and this assignment. Thank you SO much to all those parents that helped out by coming with us. I love and appreciate your support and assistance!

To clarify, Wednesday's field trip information was not correct. I'm very sorry about this, as I printed off the wrong version of the field trip form. So here's the correct information:

• The field trip is taking place Wednesday, February 27
• We will be leaving at 10:30am 
• Students need a picnic style lunch as we'll be eating on the bus. Please make sure you pack them enough easy snacks to eat.  
• Due to limited space on the bus we're asking all parents to meet us downtown at the VSO. I'll email all parents participating so they can arrange carpooling, if they so desire. 
• If you have any questions please feel free to either email me or come see me after school. 

I'm very sorry about any confusion this might have caused you. 

Lastly, we'll be going to Peninsula Retirement on Thursday morning  which is located 5 blocks from our school. We'll be walking there, interviewing residents about their childhood and coming back before lunch. If you interested in joining us, we'll be leaving the classroom around 9:15 that day and returning by 11:20. Just meet us at the classroom.

Weekly Update: Feb 18-22

Hi Parents,

  Thank you for all those who handed in their child's permission forms. I'm very excited for our upcoming trips, as I know they will greatly increase the students' knowledge of music and history. I'm still looking for two more volunteers for the VSO trip. Also next week, we'll be walking to Peninsula Village Retirement Home to spend some time interviewing some residences there about their experience when they were young. If there are any parents interested in joining us, I'd greatly appreciate that!

For this weeks field trip, I've asked to students to dress as pioneers. Here's a picture I took from Google showing a class that dressed up like pioneer kids. What I'm looking for is a simple outfit where the girls are in dresses and boys in pants (slacks or jeans are fine) and plain bottom up shirts (they can wear their uniform shirt). I went to a thrift store and found a patterned long dress for my own costume.


Because of all the work we've been doing in Grade Three, some students have run out of school supplies. The items that seem to need replacing are white erasers and pencil crayons. If you could check with your child to see if they need anything re-purchased that would be very helpful.

Lastly, many students have been forgetting to update their reading log here at school. Please encourage your child to do so, as I would hate for them to miss out on some excellent prizes!

Weekly Update: Feb 11-15

Hi Parents,

This Thursday is Valentines day. The students will be having a little 'Love' celebration in the afternoon with Mrs. Thiessen. The girls are in charge of snack this time. I'll email out parents this evening. Thanks!

   There is no JGB this week, as we're working on our "My Dragon" writing as our final visualizing assignment. I'm very proud of the writing the students have been doing in this unit. On Wednesday they will be bring home a piece of writing they did on a special place they like to go to. Please take a moment to read it, as they have been working so hard on adding lots of details to their writing.

Changing for PE has been going well. Next week we'll try half the boys in at once. The girls all go in at the same time, due to their many layers.

Burnaby Village field trip forms will be in your child's agenda Thursday. Please sign and return by Tuesday. We're asking for $15.00 which will cover the cost of the rest of the years field trips (Art Gallery, Arocha, and Vancouver Symphony).

Hi Parents,

  This Friday is going to be a very busy day! We have our first book shares in the morning during library. Please make sure your child is ready to go, if it's their week. Friday is also a View Day for new prospective families. If you know of anyone who has been interested in their child attending, please invite them to our View Day. Lastly, Friday will be our Chinese New Years celebration. The chinese families of WRCA have planned a special day, which we are very excited for!

We also have a new student, Jenna, who will be joining us for the month of February. We're very excited to get to know her!
