Hi Parents,

Thank you to all the parents that joined us Friday afternoon for chapel followed by a sneak peak at our Project Build structures. If you haven't had a chance, or would like another chance, to see the finished structures please feel free to join us Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon school. I'll also try to remember to post photos on here as well.

Important Survey: Preschool at WRCA

Dear WRCA parent:

As WRCA continues to expand its educational program to ensure sustainability and growth, we are in the process of examining the implementation of a 3 and 4 year old WRCA preschool program starting the 2014/15 academic year.

We are asking that you click on the link below and take 5 minutes to complete a survey that will help us gauge the the interest and values surrounding preschool programming for WRCA families.

Note that the survey results are anonymous and this survey will remain open until 11 AM, Wednesday, November 27th.

Thank you for taking the time to aid us in the consideration of this exciting possibility for WRCA.

On behalf of the Education Committee,

Darryl DeBoer

Vice Principal

Weekly Update: Nov. 18th-22 [end of term one ;( ]

Hello All,

This week is the end of term one, and a very important day on Friday! All day Friday we will be working on our final science project: Project Build. The students have been working with their groups the past 5 weeks to prepare for this day. They've been investigating structures, crafting blueprints, and practicing building all for this day. The students have made a list of all the recycled items they need to accomplish their task. Below you will find a list. If you have any of the items please send them to school any day this week (before Friday, please!).

Items for Project Build:
- Used and washed Ziplock bags
-Cardboard
-Egg cartons
-Plastic containers
-fruit cups
-Straws
-newspaper

Also on Friday the students will be participating in a chapel (starts at 12:35) on the theme 'love does.' This theme is something we've been focusing on in class, and have brainstormed a love project based on it. The idea of 'love does' is that as Christians we are called to act in love. On Thursday the class and I had a great conversation about acting in love to others. I challenged them to brainstorm a way we can 'love does' an inner city grade 2 class (my friend is the teacher of the class) in Whalley. I gave them the challenge and then left them alone for 10 minutes to come up with ideas. When I came back they had a whole list of things we could do for this class, the main idea being putting together a surprise Christmas Party for them. Over the next few weeks the students have been challenged to do things around the house to errand money towards the Christmas party. Together with the money we raise we will be baking cookies, ordering pizza, purchasing a small gift, and making cards for the other class. We also talked about doing these things anonymously as it's not for other's to know it was us, rather God knows our hearts and actions and that's enough! It was awesome to see the kids put together this idea. I appreciate your support in helping make this happen. When I set a date for making cookies, parent support would be much appreciated!

Upcoming Important Dates:

-Dec. 5 K-2 Christmas Skate
-Dec. 13 Gr. 3-5 Christmas Skate
-Dec 13 Choir sing at the mall
-Dec. 10 @ 6:00 Christmas Concert, Winter uniform needed

Weekly Update: Nov. 13-16

Hi Gr. 2/3 parents,

Well we're nearing the end of term one...sad but true. We're wrapping up quite a few activities and projects, so attendance these next few days is very important. If your child needs to miss a day, please make sure you email me ahead of time so I organize work so they don't get behind.

Project Build: Our big science project day is coming up Nov. 22 (the same day as our chapel presentation). Tomorrow each group will be creating a list of recyclable materials they need to collect and bring to school next week. Then on Friday after chapel we will be inviting you the parents (and siblings) into our classroom to see our Project Build structures {Chapel 12:35, Project Build 1:15}. We will be inviting other primary classes into our room to view the structures {Nov. 25th}.  Please note that not all structures will be completed Friday afternoon: however it would be a wonderful time for you to come to chapel and then see your kids in action.

Chapel: The Grade 2/3's will be presenting at chapel Nov. 22 at 12:35. Please come for some worship and seeing your wonderful kids present about being peacemakers on the playground.

Teddy Bear Christmas: Nov. 18th your kids (pre-K-grade 3) are invited to this wonderful event. Invitations will be placed in your child's agenda on Wednesday.

Scholastic Book Fair: One of my favourite times of the year...our school's Scholastic book fair! Nov. 25-27 books/posters/ and other fun stuff will be on sale in the front lobby. Proceeds help our wonderful librarians purchase new books for the library! Volunteers are needed. Please see Eileen Bentley in the library if you're interested and available.

Christmas Concert: In the not to distant future, your child will be participating in our Christmas concert. Mrs. McKenzie has been working with all the Elementary students to learn some amazing songs. When the times are confirmed I'll post them on the blog, as well as email you more information. Formal winter uniform will be worn that night.

Weekly Update: Nov.4-8

Hi Parents,

First off, I want to thank you for your encouraging and supportive replies to last weeks news. I know it's hard when a teacher leaves during the year, but I want you to know that admin and I are working together to find the best person possible to continue this year with your children.

Today we had a great conversation about war, and difficult consequences war has on people, animals, and the Earth. This is all in preparation for tomorrow's Remembrance Day and Friday's Elementary Chapel (The Grade 2/3's are going to be presenting on the theme: Peacemakers on the playground).

Lastly, if your child forgot to bring their Operation Christmas Child items to school today, please make sure your child packs them in their backpack tonight.

Thanks,

Mrs. Kullman
