Last Weekly Update: June 17th-21st

This is it. My last blog post to you all.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child's (and family's) journey. This year has been filled with moments of brilliance, times of difficulties, and lots of laughter. You're children are wonderful!

Over the summer I've recommended that every student complete all the pages in their math book. The key to this math program is repetition and practice. If your child could spend two hours a week on math over the summer I know they will be able to transition to Grade Four with ease.

Lastly, today was such a great success! Thank you to all parents who came to play with us! All Elementary teachers agreed that this was the best beach day. Praise God for wonderful weather!

Second Last Weekly Update....June 10th-14th

Hello Parents,

I have to brag about your kids for a moment. Today we started working on multiplying 4 by 3 digit numbers. I had allotted an hour for a lesson and some practice, thinking they'd need lots of time guided practice, but guess what! After 10 minutes of doing questions on the board they all felt very confortable with it, and went on to complete 3 pages of math! I was so proud of them!

I also wanted to say that this class has come along way on the playground. Yes, there are still days were disagreements happend (we're all human), but they are working on better communication and trying to solve it on their own. I guess with this bunch it just took them a little longer, but they're doing a great job now.

Today a notice for Beach Day went out. This year we're doing things a little different. Instead of busing students to the beach we're having parents drop their child off (and stay for a day of fun, if they'd like to). For those that can't drop off/pick-up their child, there will be limited seating on the small WRCA bus. I will also be driving over a load of kids.

If you have any questions please email me for clarification.

Happy second last week,

Melissa

Weekly Update: June 3rd-7th

Hello Grade Three Community,

The end is near, and so are the last of our big events! Beach Day has been confirmed for June 17th. This will be our last class outings of the year. Details to be sent home next week. Sports day is next Tuesday (June 11th). Parent volunteers are greatly needed as this year we're planning a K-12 sports day. This week we have TWO field trips. Wednesday we'll be travelling to the Surrey Art Gallery for an afternoon experimenting with clay, and Thursday Mrs. Thiessen is taking the class to Arocha to explore the idea of plants in our ecosystem. Thank you to all those parents that are able to drive.

If your family is planning to leave before June 21st, could you please let me know so I can properly plan for their early departure.

We will be having a class party June 21st. We will be doing snacks, dressing up like our favourite Despereaux character, and watching the movie Despereaux in class.

Lastly, I wanted to thank you parents for being so supportive with the musical. You're kids were amazing and the performance was incredible. Thank you to Shelia, who dedicated countless hours to making it happen. It was an fantastic learning experience that the students will cherish for years to come!

Have a great first week of June!
