Mrs. Kullman's Parental Leave letter

Dear Parents,

This Fall has been one of my favourites!  Your children are so kind and empathic, and working with them has been absolutely wonderful. However, it is with equal parts sadness and excitement that my husband and I have had to make a decision for our children.

In September, Geoff and I found out that, because of new legislation surrounding the adoption process, we are eligible for 9 months of parental leave immediately. We debated what to do, and had decided to release the decision to God. At the beginning of October, things at home were becoming more difficult with Cameron craving my presence, and the adoption process demanding more of our time. During my drive home one afternoon, I had a thought that gave me peace, so I know it was from God. That thought was that these boys were placed with us for a reason and that I need to be there for them right now. As you can image, while this thought gave me a sense of peace, I love teaching and love your kids, so making this decision has been incredibly difficult.

However, our decision has now been made, and it is to do what is best for our family right now.  So starting in January 2014 I will be switching my focus to my kids instead of yours. I will treasure these next two months with your kids (as well as with you, too).

Please note: I have NOT yet told your children, but will be telling them tomorrow (Tuesday, October 29th).  I would very much like the opportunity to tell them myself instead of hearing it from you, their parents, first.  I appreciate your help in this, as I know it may be difficult to keep this "mum" (pun intended).

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come talk to me after class or email me at any time.  In regards to who will be teaching your children for the remainder of the school year, rest assured that the Administration team is in the process of finding the best candidate to fill the role.

Sincerely,

Melissa Kullman
